The simplicity of the website is overshadowed by a giant, colorful, transgender banner on the top—bigger than the header reading WIL WHEATON dot NET. In the center of the flag is the hashtag: Trans Rights Are Human Rights. This was enough to send me to the edge. What pushed me off the cliff was a tiny photo of Wil on the top left. Zooming into the photo I realized he was wearing a shirt that read: Protect Trans Kids. It wasn’t the shirt, the flag, or his loving blog post about Rocky Horror Picture Show that hit me. It was the kindness in his eyes. Behind his thick-framed glasses, was a sweetness that could endure any hatred in the universe.

It’s not hard to emulate that sweetness. In fact, it’s our natural state as human beings. Like little babies shoving pacifiers in each other’s mouths, we are all loving by nature. And the worst thing that could ever happen to us, is to lose our sweetness.

The challenges of life, especially for those of us who move through gender, can dull our nature. Or it can cause us to become so sweet, we break through any bitterness. More powerful than a spoonful of corn syrup—faster than a speeding lollipop.

Today, I'll try to be even sweeter than yesterday. I hope you will too.
